That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
When David showed up in the battlefield, it was because he came to deliver food to his brothers who were soldiers in the armies of Saul. David came literally as a food delivery boy, but in the end, he squared up with Goliath and ended up cutting off the head of Goliath. David moved from being a food delivery boy to being a giant slayer in the battlefield. He moved from ordinary assignments to extraordinary relevance.

Friend, can I be the first to announce to you, that you can be more than what you are currently doing? You can do more than your current role. You can do more than your current assignment. You can be more than your contemporaries and even superiors imagine you can be. You can do more than what you have become accustomed to. You can do more than the current opportunities you have. You have capacity to be more.

David came as a food delivery boy, but when he saw a chance to defeat Goliath, he took it. He saw a chance to be more, and he didn’t excuse himself from it. When life grants you the chance to be more, don’t excuse yourself from it. When the opportunity to rise beyond your current roles shows up, don’t excuse yourself. When God brings you to that place where you can do more than you are used to, don’t seek to remain less.

David’s father sent him to the battlefield to deliver food, but the mandate of heaven on David required him to defeat the man who had defied the armies of Israel. Men gave David a smaller role, but David understood and aligned with heaven’s mandate on his life, and he did more than what he was sent to the battlefield to do. Don’t allow the roles that men gave you to make you lose sight of heaven’s mandate on you.

Be intentional to grow in relevance. You can be more, but you must also be willing to do more and be more. Don’t let your current role shut you out of future relevance.
Ecclesiastes 9: 10 says: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”
